Matt Watson named Tiffin City Engineer, Montz thanks Livojevic for 25+ years

TIFFIN, OH — Assistant City Engineer Matt Watson will take over the role of City Engineer today, December 30, 2018. Watson has been with the City of Tiffin as Assistant City Engineer for the past five years, playing a large role in many transformative projects throughout the city, including Cherry Alley in downtown Tiffin across from The Ritz Theatre and the infrastructure to support large-scale development on the West side of Tiffin.

Tiffin Mayor Aaron Montz said, “On behalf of the City of Tiffin, I would like to thank Mario Livojevic for his more than 25 years of service as City Engineer. This is an important office, handling a wide variety of projects each year, and we are confident that Matt Watson will continue the track record of success without interruption.”

Watson is excited about the opportunity and eager to get started in his new role: “I would like to thank my family, previous employers, past and present co-workers, and the City of Tiffin Administration. If it was not for the support and opportunities that each one of these people provided me, I would not have gotten to this position. The success has always been a total team effort and it will continue to be moving forward. I plan to bring a never-content attitude to the City Engineer’s Office.  I feel we have gotten a lot of great things accomplished over the past 5 years, however, we aren’t done yet. Tiffin’s on the rise and I am looking forward to the opportunity to continue to do my part in this new role and keep bettering our community.”

Watson is a 2004 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and completed the extra coursework to become a professional land surveyor at the Ohio State University in 2009. Upon graduation, Watson moved back to Tiffin and took a position with Contractors Design Engineering in Norwalk, Ohio, where he was able to work on projects in the Tiffin community such as the Schekelhoff Park Trail and the Saurwein Health and Wellness Center at Heidelberg University.

These projects reinforced Watson’s desire to work in the community. “I have always taken pride and passion in my work and the pride statement of being able to say you had involvement in projects in your hometown like the Schekelhoff Park Trail and Saurwein Health and Wellness Center just reiterated to myself that Tiffin and Seneca County was where I needed to be and I needed to have involvement in future projects that impacted our community.”

Watson has also been involved in the community in other capacities. He is on the Board of Directors of the Seneca County Young Professionals, a member of the Downtown Design Committee, participates in the Seneca County Opportunity Center Celebrity Basketball Game, and until 2018 he served as the Eden Township zoning inspector. In 2018, he received the SIEDC Special Recognition Award for his work in assisting economic development in the community.

He is also currently a professional engineer and surveying intern in the State of Ohio. Upon obtaining the professional surveying license, will be one of four Seneca County residents who have both a professional engineering and surveying license.
