McDonald’s creates new currency, MacCoin, to be used for free Big Macs
The representatives of McDonald’s decided to come up with something special for the “birthday” of the most famous burger in the world. The company is going to issue special tokens – MacCoins dedicated to this memorable date.
While MacCoins cannot be considered cryptocurrencies from the technical point of view, they do remind the tokens issued by blockchain-based platforms.
Starting from the 2nd of August, McDonald’s customers will be able to obtain MacCoins after purchasing Big Macs. The coins can be exchanged for burgers in future or stored for collection purposes.
We’re celebrating 50 years of Big Mac by creating a global currency—MacCoin—each one worth a free Big Mac around the ?, with 5 collectible designs for 5 legendary decades. Starting August 2, collect your own MacCoins when you buy a Big Mac while supplies last. #BigMac50 pic.twitter.com/xn8Z9GNLSp

Since the infamous Big Mac went through 5 major stages of its development, the MacCoins will be also issued in 5 different kinds. The total emission is going to be 6.2 million pieces, and they will be liable until the end of 2018.
The president of the fast food giant is sure that:
“The MacCoin transcends currencies to commemorate our global iconic burger while giving customers all over the world a chance to enjoy a Big Mac on us.”
The full list of countries where you can get hold of MacCoins is placed here. It includes 58 states from all over the world. In the US only there will be about 14 thousand restaurants supporting MacCoins.
