As race heats up, Rachel Crooks gets endorsement from Ohio Education Assoc.
TIFFIN, OH — The Ohio Education Association (OEA) has announced its endorsement of Rachel Crooks, the Democratic candidate for the District 88 seat in the Ohio House of Representatives.
Ms. Crooks will be challenging Bill Reineke in the November midterm election. District 88 includes all of Sandusky County and a majority of Seneca County.
OEA’s mission is to lead the way for the continuous improvement of public education while advocating for the members and students they serve.
“This decision was made based on Ms. Crooks’ responses on issues of importance to public education and OEA members,” according Matt Durham, Chairperson of the OEA-FCPE Screening Committee, and Becky Higgins, OEA President.
“I am incredibly honored to receive this important endorsement,” Crooks stated. “The OEA works tirelessly to make schools better and improve public education in Ohio. As the next state representative for my district, I will advocate for the necessary funding to support public education and rein in the abuses of for-profit charter schools.”
The OEA represents more than 125,000 teachers, faculty members and support professionals who work in Ohio’s schools, colleges, and universities to help improve public education and the lives of Ohio’s children. OEA members provide a wide range of professional education services in communities throughout the state.
For over 12 years, Ms. Crooks has worked in higher education, with the majority of time spent recruiting and providing services for international students. Ms. Crooks is the first person in her family to receive a college degree, and she is currently pursuing her Ph.D. at The University of Toledo.
According to Crooks, “Education is the most powerful tool available to propel individuals forward in society, and for our democracy to function, it’s imperative that everyone have access to a quality education.”
In addition to OEA, Crooks has received endorsements from the following organizations: the Ohio Civil Service Employees Association, Ohio Association of Public School Employees, EMILY’s List, Run For Something, Matriots, MoveOn, BlueAmerica PAC, Launch Progress PAC, Planned Parenthood, and People for the American Way. Her campaign was also given the Gun Sense Candidate Distinction by Moms Demand Action.
