Alcohol likely factor in Hopewell Twp. crash, one dead

Ohio State Highway Patrol says alcohol was likely a factor in the single-vehicle crash that killed a Fostoria man early Sunday morning.

The crash happened on County Road 7 in Hopewell Township around midnight.

Police say 25-year-old Troy J. Schmitz of Fostoria was traveling southbound on CR 7 in a 2012 Dodge pick-up truck. The truck reportedly swerved into a ditch off the side of the road where it struck a utility pole, overturning.

Schmitz was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle upon impact. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash is still under investigation.
